More About Jacquie

My career has always centred around supporting people, in a wide range of environments. I worked as a lecturer in a large multi-cultural college in East London for around 14 years. Prior to that, I worked in local government focusing on issues such as homelessness, housing policy, and improving customer satisfaction.

I also have extensive experience in the voluntary sector, supporting people from diverse backgrounds and cultures. This has included work in mental health support, domestic violence, and reparative justice. I am also experienced in working with people with autism and their families, supporting them through challenging times.

Whilst at Relate, I worked alongside CAFCASS (Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service), supporting separating and divorcing parents. As a qualified child counsellor, I was able to help parents focus on their children’s needs, and to reach agreements that enabled shared plans for moving forward.

How Relationship Counselling Can Help

Whatever your reasons for seeking relationship counselling, I understand that it can take courage. Asking somebody else for help can feel daunting, and I am always humbled when people make that first step.

If your relationship is going through a difficult time, or perhaps feels at crisis point, counselling can help. You may feel stuck in repetitive arguments or believe you have reached the point where you cannot go on as things are.

Over the years, many clients have told me they wish they had sought help sooner. They often thought they could sort things out themselves, only to feel frustrated that they kept “bumbling along”. Counselling offers the opportunity for a fresh perspective, a safe space to be listened to, and the chance to explore what change is possible.

How I Can Help

I believe that taking an honest look at your relationship will always be beneficial. Together, we will:

  • Explore how you communicate with each other.
  • Gain a clearer understanding of your needs and expectations.
  • Work in a warm, supportive, and non-judgemental space.

Clients often tell me I put them at ease very quickly, even if one partner was reluctant to attend. Feedback is that people find it easy to open up and be honest in sessions.

I take an active role in therapy, not just listening but working with you to explore what is happening in your relationship. This may involve unpicking repetitive arguments to understand where patterns come from, and identifying what changes could help you move forward.

I use a variety of therapeutic approaches and will adapt to what best suits your unique situation. If for any reason you feel I am not the right therapist for you, I will happily support you in finding an alternative.

Ethical Standards

I subscribe to and work within the UKCP Code of Ethics and the BACP Ethical Framework. I also undertake regular professional development, clinical supervision, and peer supervision, and I hold full professional indemnity insurance.
