Questions We Are Often Asked
Here are answers to the questions we hear most from couples considering therapy
"What happens in the first session?"
Your first session is an opportunity to meet your therapist and talk about what has brought you to counselling. You will both have the chance to explain your concerns and your therapist will ensure both perspectives are heard.
"What if my partner doesn't want to come?"
That's completely okay. If your partner isn't ready, you are still very welcome to come on your own. Individual therapy can help you explore your feelings, gain clarity, and think through what feels right for you and your relationship.
"How long does couples counselling usually take?"
There is no fixed number of sessions. Some couples attend for a short period to resolve a specific issue, while others choose longer-term support. Sessions are booked one at a time, so there is no requirement to commit in advance.
"Is what we talk about in counselling confidential?"
Yes. All sessions are confidential and follow professional ethical guidelines. Confidentiality would only be broken if your therapist believed there was a serious risk of harm to you or someone else, or if there was a legal obligation to disclose information.
