Hello, my name is Karen Williams and I am a fully qualified Integrative Therapist based at Relationship Counselling Gillingham (Rainham) practice. I’m qualified to diploma level in both Integrative/Person Centred Therapy and Transactional Analysis. I am also a member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy)
Person Centred Therapy works on the premise that an individual knows themselves better than anyone else. Therefore, focusing on this knowledge to enable an individual to understand any past or current issues in order to grow emotionally. This is invaluable in understanding how individual roles impact a relationship.
Transactional Analysis explores how we communicate and understand each other based on numerous factors. My study of Integrative Counselling enables me to draw upon a variety of different therapeutic approaches to find one best suited to your unique situation
I’m not only an experienced couple therapist. I also work with a wide range of issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, personality disorder, and bipolar disorder.
As a couples counsellor I work with heterosexual, trans or same sex relationships. Along with different cultures, religious beliefs and much more.
I create a warm, safe environment in order for you to feel comfortable enough to open up about what is going on for you in your relationship. I’m not there to take side or pass judgement. Instead I will be there to listen to your combined experiences of the issues presented.
At the first session, we will discuss what your aims are for therapy, that is if you know of course. If not, I will help you both try and find some clarity as to what success looks like for you both and you can decide how the sessions develop with my input. We will work together on the partner dynamics whilst allowing both of you to be heard, listened to, and validated.
I will work with you both to gain a greater understanding of yourselves and the way you communicate. This means, we will look at what you say, what you mean and how you expect it to be received by your partner. Together, we will explore how it might be interpreted in a different manner from which it was intended.
Miscommunication often lies in differences in individual life experiences, which can lead to different meanings being drawn from the same comment or behaviour. Therefore, the exploration of this leads to a greater understanding and hopefully the reduction of any hurt, anger and/or resentment that might have been building up.
It is a privilege to be part of people’s life stories and relationships. I gain great satisfaction in helping couples solve the issues within their relationships so they can move forward more positively in whichever way they chose.
Confidentiality is always respected.
I am a member of the BACP and the NSCP, which means I abide by the ethical guidelines and professional standards of both organisations. Part of my professional standards is to have ongoing supervision and continual professional development. This to ensure I provide the best possible service for my clients.
