More from Emma

Hello, I’m Emma. I am an Integrative Counsellor offering relationship counselling to couples, alongside individual therapy, with many years’ experience working across mental health settings.

My work is grounded in the belief that relationships can be a powerful source of healing, growth, and understanding, even during times of conflict, distance, or distress. I provide a supportive, calm, and non judgemental space where couples can explore their experiences, emotions, and patterns safely.

I draw on a range of therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, psychodynamic psychotherapy, person centred therapy, and emotionally focused approaches. This allows our work to be shaped around your relationship and what feels most helpful for you both.

Alongside my counselling work, I have over eighteen years’ experience working in mental health and social care. This includes supporting people in complex and high pressure environments, which has given me a strong understanding of emotional regulation, trauma, and relational dynamics. These experiences continue to inform my steady, thoughtful, and compassionate approach with couples today.

I work collaboratively, helping both partners feel heard and understood, even when conversations feel difficult. My aim is to support you in gaining deeper awareness, improving connection, and creating meaningful change at a pace that feels right for your relationship.

Relationship Counselling Sittingbourne

Maria Priddey

My Name is Maria Priddey and I am a fully qualified and an experienced Couple Counsellor based at Relationship Counselling Kent’s Sittingbourne practice.  I have a Level 4 Diploma in ‘Therapeutic Counselling’ and I am registered with the  BACP (British Association Counsellors & Psychotherapists) so therefore abide by their code of ethics.

My core approach to therapy is “Person Centred”. Which emphasis the belief that every person has the capacity  to fulfil his or her own potential. I also practice the ‘integrative’ approach, which  means I draw upon different theoretical approaches to allow me to tailor my work to suit each couple’s unique situation.

I understand it can be difficult to take the decision to reach out for help with your relationship. However, rest assured, I will be there to support you both, every step of the way.

At the beginning of our first session, I will ask you what you hope to achieve out of the therapy. Whether  you are hoping to make your relationship work better than it currently is or perhaps you would like me to help you separate more amicably. At this point, you might feel unsure or you  might have different answers and that is okay, we will work together to help you find clarity.

My approach to relationship therapy

I offer a safe, confidential space in order for you both to work through the problems in your relationship. Helping uou find answers to any questions you may have by encouraging you to  look  at your feelings. I will support you in finding a greater understanding of yourself as an individual as well as within your relationship. You will be empowered to explore change and  in turn find a way of moving forward, in whichever way you choose.

Each session will be guided by you. Which means you will have complete autonomy to decide what we discuss. You will be in control of when you are ready to talk about parts of you and your relationship. Although I will be there to guide the sessions and help you both ‘really’ lisen to each other’s points of view. You don’t necessarily have to like, or agree, with each other’s  perspectives. However, by understanding them, goes a  long way in removing any hurt, anger or resentment which may have built up over the years. It is your opportunity to talk and to be heard

I consider myself warm, down to earth and non-judgemental. Which will hopefully enable you both to feel comfortable enough to talk freely, openly and honestly with me. I will ensure you feel valued and comfortable during our sessions, helping you have a better understanding of each other. So you are able to  work together to achieve a better way of being.

Ethical Standards

I am a member of the BACP, working within their ethical framework.  I also attend monthly clinical supervision and further training in specific areas as required. My professional indemnity/public liability insurance is always up to date.

More from Jo

My name is Jo and I am a fully qualified Integrative Counsellor, based at Marriage Counselling Sittingbourne. My practice is in Teynham, which is easily accessible from Faversham, the Isle of Sheppey, and Maidstone. I am an Accredited Member of the National Counselling Society (NCS).

As an integrative counsellor, I take a combined approach to therapy. This means I draw on different elements from specific counselling theories, as there is no single approach that works for everyone.

I have extensive experience in couples counselling as well as working as a clinical supervisor. My role is to support you in rebuilding, repairing, and re-bonding your relationship. If required, I can also help facilitate the end of a relationship in as respectful and amicable a way as possible.

My Background and Experience

I have worked with a wide variety of issues through private practice, agency work, and five years within the NHS IAPT (Improving Access to Psychological Therapies) service.

This experience has shown me the importance of effective communication in relationships. I also have in-depth knowledge of how difficulties such as sexual desire or dysfunction, long-term health conditions, domestic abuse, anxiety, depression, and anger can impact couples.

I have seen and heard most things, so there is nothing taboo. I’m not easily shocked or embarrassed — if you need to talk about it, I am here to listen.

How I Can Help

At the core of any successful therapy is the relationship between counsellor and client. I strive to build a trusting, empathic relationship with you and provide a safe, confidential space to talk through your issues.

In our work together, I will help you:

  • Understand how past experiences may influence your current beliefs and behaviours.
  • Recognise when beliefs have become unhealthy or unhelpful in your relationship.
  • Explore how your early years and background impact the way you relate to your partner.
  • Find healthier ways of communicating and connecting.

By increasing awareness of yourself and your partner, and by developing new communication skills, you will be better equipped to move forward and create a happier, healthier relationship.

I will tailor my approach to your unique situation. As I am also a trained life coach, I may use these skills alongside therapy to help you manage life more effectively, maximise your potential, and achieve your goals.

About Me

If you are considering sharing your thoughts and emotions with me, it feels right to share a little of myself too.

I am a down-to-earth person with a sarcastic sense of humour and my own life experiences, including some personal challenges. Like everyone, I have my struggles, but I get through them with a smile and sometimes a few expletives (#counsellorwhoswears).

I love to laugh and look for the positive in every situation. It hasn’t always been this way — I have had times when life felt overwhelming — but I came through them. These experiences fuel my passion to help others through their own difficult times.

Ethical Standards

I subscribe to and work within both the BACP and NCS Codes of Ethics, undertaking regular professional development and supervision. I also hold full professional indemnity insurance.
