My name is Dr Tim Burns. I’m a fully qualified relationship counsellor based at marriage counselling Whitstable. My training at ‘Tavistock Relationships’ led to me becoming an accredited practitioner in couple therapy for depression. Alos a BSc and MSc in psychology and a postgraduate diploma in ‘Integrative Psychotherapy’ for individual counselling.
I have worked in the field of adult mental health for almost 15 years. The majority of which was within primary care mental health services. Alongside my own private work with couples.
Couples bring a variety of issues into therapy. For instance, infidelity, sexual difficulties, issues related to physical and mental wellbeing. In addition to, difficulties in work/life balance and managing each partners expectations of the relationship.
I have broad therapeutic experience which I draw upon to enrich my work. I have experience working with a diverse range of couples. Including those from differing socio-economic and cultural backgrounds. Through to same sex couples or where one or both have transitioned. I have worked with couples in the early stages of their relationship to those having been together for many decades.
I provide a safe and supportive and non-judgemental space for you to talk through your issues. I will seek to build improved communication and understanding between you. My approach will allow you both the opportunity to explore your individual attachment styles. Above all, you will be provided the time to communicate your needs whilst building empathy and tolerance towards each other.
I subscribe to and work within the ethical frameworks of both the BPS and the BACP. Alongside undertaking regular professional development and supervision. I also hold full professional indemnity insurance.
