Marriage Counselling Sittingbourne

My name is Jo and I’m a fully qualified counsellor based at Marriage Counselling Sittingbourne . I am actually in Teynham which is easily accessible from Faversham, the Isle of Sheppey and Maidstone. I’m accredited by the NCS (National Counselling Society).

I am a professionally trained ‘Integrative Counsellor’ which means I take combined approach to therapy. This means I bring together different elements of specific therapies. Integrative therapists take the view that there is no single approach that can treat everyone in all situations.

I have vast experience in couple counselling as well as being a clinical supervisor. I will provide support to rebuild, repair and re-bond you relationship. Or sometimes if required, I will help facilitate the end of a relationship as amicably as possible.

My background/experience

I’ve experienced a variety of issues during my time as a therapist, achieved through private practice, agency work along with five years working within the NHS IAPT (improved access to psychological therapies)

My extensive knowledge and understanding has highlighted the importance of effective communication within relationships. Alongside understanding the impact problems such as sexual desire or dysfunction, long term health conditions, domestic abuse, anxiety, depression or anger can have on relationships. I have seen and heard most things, so I’m not easily shocked or embarrassed, so there is nothing taboo..If you need to talk about it then I’m here to listen.

How I can help

At the core of any successful therapy is the relationship between counsellor and the individual. Therefore, I strive to build a trusting and empathic relationship with you.

At marriage counselling Sittingbourne I provide a safe, confidential space to talk through your issues together. Helping you to understand how you’re past events and experiences may be responsible for your current beliefs and behaviour.

We may not always be aware; but sometimes our beliefs become unhealthy or may even be incorrect, which can lead to unhealthy behaviours filtering into the relationship. We are all influenced by our early years and the people around us. Therefore, it can be helpful to understand our partner’s history as well as understanding our own.

By helping you to understand yourselves, alongside finding more healthy ways of communicating, you will be equipped with the tools to make the most of your future and find happiness once again in your relationship.

I will tailor my work to suit your individual situation. I am a trained life coach so may use these skills alongside the therapy to help you manage life, maximise your potential and achieve your goals.

About me

If you are considering sharing your thoughts and emotions with me, it feels right to share a little of myself with you.  I’m just a pretty “normal” kind of person with a sarcastic sense of humour and a few battle wounds of my own.

I also struggle with my own issues some days but I get through them with a smile and a few expletives! #counsellorwhoswears. I love to laugh and always try to find a positive in every situation. However, it hasn’t always been this way. I have also had difficult times in my life when I thought I would never laugh again but I came through them. My own experiences give me the passion to help you through your difficult times.

Ethical Standards

I subscribe to and work within the BACP and NCS code of ethics and ethical framework. Additionally, I undertake regular professional development and supervision as well as having professional indemnity insurance.
