About Sara
My name is Sara O’Donnell and I am a fully qualified Psychotherapeutic Counsellor. I work with both couples and individuals, and I’m an accredited member of the National Counselling Society (NCS) as well as a registered member of the BACP.
I work within the NCS Code of Ethics and the BACP Ethical Framework, and I also undertake regular professional development and supervision to ensure my practice remains of the highest standard.
In my experience, many couples try hard to resolve issues on their own before seeking therapy. They often find themselves stuck in the same arguments and feel upset, hurt, or overwhelmed by the patterns they cannot break. I provide a safe, confidential, and non-judgemental space where both partners can feel supported, understood, and encouraged to find new ways of relating.

Meet Sara
Background & Experience
I have worked extensively with both individuals and couples, addressing anxiety, depression, conflict and relationship breakdown, including infidelities and loss of intimacy and addiction.
My approach is integrative and person-centred, and is always tailored to the unique needs of each person and partnership.
I draw on training in Transactional Analysis and Relational Life Skills (RLT) to help you process and understand the relationship patterns that keep you stuck. Together we identify unmet needs, build on inner resources and learn practical relational skills to create the relationship you want.
I support couples to communicate their wants and needs more clearly and to find greater relational balance, working on conflict resolution and restoring intimacy. We explore emotional triggers, habitual roles people take to protect themselves, and develop practical ways to replace negative cycles with healthier patterns.
People often describe me as empathetic, authentic and non-judgemental, and tell me they feel safe and supported when sharing their stories. My aim is to help you build greater balance, harmony and wellbeing within your relationships while supporting each individual’s personal growth.

“My husband and I had a few sessions with Sara and it was just what our relationship needed. We found the sessions really beneficial and Sara helped us approach things with a different perspective. She was a good listener and had some helpful tips and strategies on how to communicate better. She was very fair and remained professional at all times. We highly recommend Sara and know that we can use her services again if needed.”
“I found working with Sara very beneficial. I found her sessions to have a good balance of holding space to talk & offload whilst also allowing time for her to be directive, to ask me (us) helpful & insightful questions & to provide us with practical guidance & ideas of things to work on/'homework' for our relationship. I would definitely recommend working with Sara as she is warm & empathetic, whilst also able to be direct & to ask those probing questions that often need asking & need reflecting on”
“Our counselling sessions were very good and it was great to be able to share and talk in a safe enviroment. Sara guided the conversations to allow both of us to contribute equally which is sometimes difficult as I struggle to be heard. The sessions made us really evaluate where we are in our relationship and what we want for the future. Sadly, we are now divorcing but at least we gave counselling a chance and we are working amicably towards our divorce which is right for our futures.”
“Working with Sara i have learnt what behaviors were wrong and what I can do differently. She listens and makes me understand what's good and how worthy I am. I'm blessed to work with her and will check in with her from time to time for updating and her expertise.”
“Sara really helped me to understand what was right and what was wrong with my relationship She listened to both of us carefully and helped us to be able to communicate better. I wasn’t sure if the counselling was to help our marriage repair or for me to make a decision to leave. Sadly it was the later but myself and my husband are still close and see each other sometimes even though we are in Separate houses and are very happy in our new lives. Talking with Sara helped me understand what I wanted and that was peace. Thank you xx”
“I would recommend Sara to anyone who needs someone professional to talk to. All my life I thought counselling was for “other people” and I didn’t need it. On the occasions that I did give it a go, they had been poor experiences. Sara was the complete opposite. Sessions felt like a casual chat over coffee (Sara’s coffee is also great by the way). There was no judgement or scrutiny but there was homework and an expectation that I continue to think and evaluate our discussions outside of the sessions. And from the thought and effort that she put in I could tell she does the same about her clients in between sessions too. The difference she made to me and by extension, my wife and family was worth the work and every penny!”
