About Maureen
Hello, my name is Maureen Fenner. I understand that reaching out for support can feel like a big step, and I truly commend your courage in seeking help for your relationship. Many couples experience periods of struggle, and it's perfectly normal to need a safe space to navigate those challenges together. My aim is to offer a warm and understanding environment where you both can feel at ease.
My therapeutic approach draws on Person-Centred, Psychodynamic, and Attachment-Based therapies, allowing me to tailor our work to your unique needs. I specialise in helping couples with difficulties such as communication breakdowns, recurring conflict, relationship anxiety, and emotional distance. Together, we'll explore the deeper dynamics at play, working collaboratively to unearth patterns and to see whether we can build a stronger, more connected relationship that feels secure.
In our sessions, you can expect a confidential and non-judgemental space where both your voices can be heard. We will work at a pace that feels comfortable for you, focusing on understanding your individual and shared experiences to learn how we need to change if we want to build a lasting positive communication. My goal is to equip you with the tools and insights to improve your communication and deepen your emotional understanding of each other.
There are many reasons that can contribute to difficulties in relationships, such as a fear of intimacy, loss of trust, and co dependency. I will always give you the best support and care throughout our work and my extensive experience of working with clients, allows me to guide you towards developing healthier attachment styles and showing you how that could be achieved.
I really look forward to hearing from you.

Background & Experience
I have extensive experience in counselling, having worked at New Romney Counselling Service for eight years, supporting clients with issues ranging from suicidal thoughts to relationship difficulties. For five years, I also worked with bereaved clients and their families at Pilgrims Hospice in Ashford. While I no longer specialise in bereavement counselling, this work greatly informed my therapeutic approach and helped me grow as a counsellor. It deepened my understanding of grief and the unique challenges people face as they come to terms with loss in their own time, often experiencing fear, loneliness, and a sense that everyday life has lost its meaning without their loved one.
How I Can Help
I will provide a safe, non-judgemental space where both your voices can be heard and understood. we will work together through your experiences and strive to meet your goals with positive behaviour training that you can use towards a happier, more fulfilled life.
We will collaboratively explore communication breakdowns and recurring conflicts to develop healthier interaction patterns.
I will help you understand and address attachment styles hindering your connection, aiming for greater emotional security rather than depending on others. The relationship you have with yourself is the most important relationship you will ever have so to get that into a secure and positive state is imperative and ultimately freeing.
We will work together to rebuild trust and intimacy, fostering a deeper sense of connection and understanding. we will look at what you truly want rather than perhaps what you say you want to please, others in this very difficult area of human relationships.
I will equip you with practical tools and insights to help you navigate relationship challenges and build stronger, healthier relationships. I believe it is important that you feel equal within your relationships and able to express your thoughts and feelings honestly. Many people struggle to do this because they fear conflict, rejection, or upsetting others. These are common challenges, and I can help you develop the confidence to express your needs, own your wishes, because you have every right to.
