About Kaye
Hello, my name is Kaye Barney. I understand that reaching out for help with relationship difficulties takes immense courage when you're struggling. My aim is to create a welcoming and safe space where you can feel heard and understood from the very first moment.
My therapeutic approach centres on helping individuals and couples navigate communication challenges, resolve conflicts, and achieve their goals, whether that's rediscovering their connection or parting amicably. I use established relationship-focused approaches such as attachment theory to explore underlying patterns and build healthier interactions. I work collaboratively with my clients to understand their unique dynamics and develop practical strategies.
You can expect a safe, non-judgemental, and confidential environment in our sessions. We will work at your pace, gently uncovering the roots of your difficulties and exploring new ways of relating. My goal is to equip you with the tools and insights needed to communicate effectively, rebuild trust, and cultivate a deeper, more resilient bond.
Beyond my core practice in relationship support, I also specialise in pre-marital counselling for those preparing for marriage and offer sensitive separation and divorce support. My extensive training with both Relate and Tavistock Institute of Marital Studies provides a robust foundation for supporting a diverse range of relationship needs.

Background & Experience
I bring a variety of related skills and experience to my work as a counsellor. I have long been interested in human motivations, behaviour and relationships, which led me to study Psychology for my first degree.
I then worked in the commercial sector, where I gained experience understanding the needs, behaviours and attitudes of customers and target markets.
I volunteered as a Samaritan, as a mentor for The Princes Trust and as a Mental Health First Aider in the workplace. These roles deepened my interest in supporting people and prompted me to retrain as a therapist, achieving a first class honours degree in counselling before setting up my own successful private practice.
I work with couples and individuals on relationship difficulties, including communication problems, frequent arguments, feeling distant or stuck, trust issues and infidelity, jealousy and repeating unhealthy patterns.
I also offer pre-marital therapy, support with life transitions, and help for those considering separation or coping with divorce, and I welcome LGBTQ+ and queer relationships.
In addition to my therapy work I teach counselling qualifications to students and I work with other counsellors as a clinical supervisor, supporting safe working according to best practice protocols and an ethical framework.
How I Can Help
I'll create a safe, neutral space where you both feel genuinely heard and understood, laying the foundation for open dialogue.
We will work together to unpick any recurring arguments and problematic patterns, equipping you with practical tools to navigate conflict constructively.
I'll guide you in transforming your communication, enabling deeper listening and more effective expression of your needs and feelings.
If trust has been broken, I'll provide empathetic, sensitive support as you bravely navigate the complexities of betrayal and work towards healing or clarity.
We'll explore your options together, whether that involves rekindling intimacy and rebuilding your connection or supporting a respectful and compassionate separation.
