    About Emma

Hello, my name is Emma Palmer and I am a fully qualified Relate-trained couple counsellor based at Relationship Counselling Kent’s West Malling practice. I understand how conflict, unspoken emotions, and everyday pressures can place strain on even the closest relationships. Left unresolved, these difficulties often lead to frustration, disconnection, and repeated clashes. My role is to help you make sense of what’s happening, gain clarity, and work towards a more balanced and fulfilling relationship.

In sessions, I provide a safe, confidential space where both partners can talk openly and feel truly heard. Although discussing personal difficulties may feel daunting at first, I will support you to feel at ease so we can explore your relationship together.

Our work may involve uncovering long-held emotions or past influences that affect your relationship today. While this can feel challenging initially, couples often discover that empathy, active listening, and constructive communication pave the way for positive change, stronger connection, and lasting growth.

    Background & Experience

My work is rooted in an integrative approach, combining tools and insights from different therapeutic models to meet the unique needs of each couple.

My focus has always been on creating space for couples to address both immediate concerns and deeper, long-standing conflicts. I specialise in helping people recognise the emotional and practical factors influencing their relationship, and guiding them towards healthier communication and stronger, more balanced connections.

    How I Can Help

I will provide a safe, confidential, and unbiased space where you both can openly explore your concerns and complexities without judgement.

We will collaboratively uncover the underlying patterns in your relationship, understanding how past experiences influence your present interactions and dynamics.

We will learn practical, evidence-based communication techniques and strategies, to foster deeper understanding and emotional connection.

I will guide you in navigating conflicts more effectively, transforming disagreements into opportunities for growth, understanding, and renewed intimacy.

We will develop a bespoke plan to strengthen your bond, rebuild trust, and achieve the lasting, fulfilling relationship you both desire.

I will support you in exploring pathways towards greater intimacy and connection, addressing any difficulties with sensitivity and care.

I'll help you talk and listen in a calmer, more constructive way.

From the very first session she put us at ease, giving simple, realistic and achievable things to implement. Our relationship is now much improved thanks to Emma's expertise and kindness. “Emma was a good facilitator in our relationship counselling. Keeping things moving in a safe space. It helped me to understand my husband more and for him to hear what I’d been saying to him for a long time, and the seriousness of the situation. Moving forward we were making it work. I don’t think we would be together without the help of Emma. Emma is kind, caring, easy to talk to, and understanding. I would highly recommend her for one to one or couples counselling.”

“Emma is very gentle, kind and caring with her approach to counselling. She's a great listener and offered us good advice, in joint sessions and individually. We only stopped seeing her when we discovered that we needed to see a relationship counsellor who specialises in neurodivergent couples, after a new diagnosis. Emma was able to recommend a ND counsellor, which was very helpful.”

“Emma was the only person I could turn to and she was totally empathetic whilst encouraging me to discuss the issues with my partner which I couldn't face before I saw her. She encouraged me to get my partner along to the next session and we both found this extremely helpful. We were able to talk about things that we haven't faced up to. We now have things out in the open and a route forward to try and make things better. Somehow, Emma gets to the underlying issues that have been hidden away and swept under the carpet. We now feel we can move forward and save our marriage.”
