My name is Tanya Thompson. I’m a UKCP Registered psychoanalytic psychotherapist based at Couple Counselling Herne Bay. I have extensive experience working within the NHS and private practice both with individuals, couples and families.
Couples therapy provides an opportunity to work through relationship difficulties. Alongside exploringe the origin of the conflicts you might be facing. Often we can find ourselves in trouble when negative repetitive patterns of relating develop. Resulting in getting stuck in certain dynamics – not knowing how to bring about change.
I’m warm, open and non-judgemental. Meaning I will provide a supportive and safe space for your to explore, process and work through your difficulties. Often problematic modes of communication surface within the context of therapy. This can be in the content of what we say, how we say it and how we are with each other. Because I’m objective; it mean I’m well placed to be able to recognise any negative relationship patterns as they surface during our sessions.
During the therapy we will consider both individual and the couple difficulties. I will sensitively help you to think about more useful ways of communicating your needs effectively. Feeling heard and understood results in improvements in personal relationships and how you feel about yourself and in relation to others. This will result in your relationship becoming stronger and ultimately more fulfilling.
I subscribe to and work within the UKCP code of ethics and the BACP ethical framework. I also undertake regular professional development and supervision as well as having professional indemnity insurance.
